The magical community known as Davis Islands was conceived in the early 1920’s by an inspired developer and entrepreneur, D.P. Davis. His vision encompassed the connection of three Mediterranean-style islands at the mouth of the Hillsborough River, acclaimed as the most comprehensively planned community in the Tampa Bay region. Davis Islands was designed to appeal to a resort and sports minded public. This vision holds true today with an abundance of sidewalks, parks, baseball fields, a marina, the Davis Island Yacht club, and a neo-traditional main street so easily incorporated into the lifestyle of those who live there. Many of the original homes built on Davis Islands showcase the Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial styles sought after by Davis. Hollow tile construction, stucco-clad walls, barrel tiled roofs, arches, towers, and beautiful hand crafted tiles are some of the architectural elements found. Home to many of the area’s prominent business persons and professional athletes, Davis Islands is within walking distance of Downtown Tampa.
